Tools for a simple way of adding the “character” to an artwork frame.

Art Travel

Recently I discovered that creating your own design for an artwork frame at home, depending on the style of the interior and painting, is great and fun. Besides, nobody knows about your painting better than the author:)

Watermelon and violet grapes in summer with a city and sea view as background.

My painting is meant to be adding some calming look to a room. At any time of year you might feel the midday relaxed atmosphere of a southern Mediterranean city. There are juicy pieces of watermelon on a table with violet grapes in a glass. From a window and a balcony you might see a southern European town somewhere in Italy with red roofs and blue sea in the background.

Painting a frame for a specific interior style is a really interesting creative process;) A stylishly designed frame for a picture can emphasize the interior design, provided that the colors and shades are correctly selected, which can also be traced in the design of the room.

There are some steps to create a unique frame that will be part of your original art and I will share many tips for artists using my experience. More fun is coming in my future posts:) If you would like to learn, please join my monthly art lessons’ club subscription.

Flowers and Paris  Luxembourg gardens. Urban sketching and Still life. Travel and Art

Architecture, Art Travel, Uncategorized, Urban sketching

Paris is always the city in flowers. This city breathes in the scents of billions of flowers. Every day it explodes with a firework of floral colours. Winter, or summer, the season does not matter for flowers in Paris.

The Luxembourg Gardens is the most “French” of all city parks, because only here you can see the true purpose of the green towns in Paris, how Parisians spend their free time…

If you would like to become one of them,  you might try  their …Vivre la vie:) Going to one of the city parks, maybe sitting comfortably on a chair near the fountain, breathing in the aroma of roses and enjoying the freshness of greenery, hiding from such a distant and at the same time immeasurably close city center from one side.

https://pixels.com/featured/parisstatue-in-luxembourg-garden-tamara-vitsenkova.html

Bright flower borders with soft ribbons frame the green lawns, and flowerbeds amaze with volumes and colors. Petunias, daisies, rudbeckia, sage, cereals, dahlias, chrys…it is the long list of flowers. Their consistent and continuous flowering pleases grateful spectators throughout the entire spring, summer and autumn seasons.

Luxembourg gardens in Paris is my favorite one, flower beds are especially good at any season. It’s impossible to stop looking at them! I am enjoying to visit again and again:) you might see my previous post about Luxembourg gardens, link is below

Frames for Art. Creating #goodmood paintings. Part 1. Some tips for making an original frame for art.

Architecture, Art Travel, Artist, Uncategorized

Recently there are some questions came from my colleagues artists. How you are presenting your art to the clients, with or without frame?Adding a matt to a watercolour painting or not? Are you buying a frame before presenting it to a client? Standard inexpensive or hand made from a baguette store? At Target, frames are often less than $25. But custom framing is a lot pricier. Frame is always an architectural feature plus preserving an art and integrating it into a design of room. There many questions about framing and artists are looking for the best solution in every situation.

I am going to share my experience of modernization of a standard frame for art, completely immersing in this interesting and creative activity. Well.. various techniques and secrets can be used to update the frame. Which ones? Let’s find out together, thanks to which the process of painting a picture frame at home will be contunuing creativity process.

Please share your experience in comments. Let’s exchange 🙂

Flowers and Paris. Adding colour to this autumn. Urban sketching and Still life. Travel and Art.part 6.

Architecture, Art Travel, Uncategorized, Urban sketching

Paris is simply an amazing place for photographs, especially in spring, summer and early autumn, when all the splendor of countless flower beds and shrubs is wrapped in luxurious blossoms of amazing flowers.

The way Parisians buy them in many stores and Sunday markets, sell and grow at home is worth of imitation:)

https://pixels.com/featured/paris-flower-market-tamara-vitsenkova.html

I bought viola tricolor, one of my favorite flowers, and did the paintings in this post in our Parisian hotel’s room. Did you know that in Roman mythology, the ancient gods turned men into violas, who secretly spied on the bathing goddess of love – Venus?:)

https://pixels.com/featured/wild-pansy-tamara-vitsenkova.html

Parisians often spend leisure time, sitting down on benches with a bottle of water, a baguette, a book or just a cigarette to take a little breath, relax after a working day or bask in the sun, going to market and flower stories and bringing these little beauties in their rooms to continue receive a feeling of being in touch with the wonderful:)

Wildflowers.  Thistle in sepia and the city of Rome.  Still life and urban sketching. Part 5.

Art Travel, Artist, Uncategorized, Urban sketching

Rome is an incredible open-air museum that is always open! The streets are scattered with buildings from different architectural eras from antiquity to the present day.

Thistle. Watercolor graphics painting with ink, I used some tender colours of pumpkin, turmeric, pineapple and steams of brick colors in fall. It represents for me architectute of Rome’s Pantheon, its monumental and elegant at the same time architectural antique temple, that was dedicated to the ancient Roman gods and the embodiment of the greatness of the Roman Empire.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflowersunny-petals-of-colors-pumpkin-turmeric-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

In my opinion, the city of Rome is the Elegance itself, you do not need to add any colours except sepia and some tender shades for its marble architecture, fontains and statues on the streets and museums.

Emperor Augustus, when assessing his rule, said: “I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble”

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of avocado and cherry’s colours. Riot of these flowers recalls me ancient ruins at Roman Forum. Every time you can discover something new in this city that will wake up your imagination:)

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-avocado-and-cherry-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with violaceous colors of its petals. It reminds me about Borromini’s architecture in Rome, with its concave and convex lines and sharp angles. Remember the famous Gaudí houses in Barcelona? Similar feeling.. Its architecture is a real white pearl, without unnecessary decorations and pomp, they give us peace… Baroque Borromini is completely different, it is calm, airy, at the same time strong and persistent, like the flowers of the thistle. I think all great architects got their ideas from Mother Nature.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-violaceous-colors-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with cappuccino and watermelon colors of petals like Trevi fountain, one of my favourite places in Rome, the part of an antique piece made from natural materials. While staying near the fountain, you feel like floating in the air!:)

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-cappuccino-and-watermelon-colors-of-petals-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with fiery red, chocolate and dark grapes colors, like Castel St Angelo and an ancient Roman pedestrian bridge with Baroque sculptures by Bernini.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-fiery-red-chocolate-and-dark-grapes-colors-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

This is my last post about flower thistle that indicates its personality character, strength, inflexibility, firmness, and survives in any conditions. And I did series of these strong flowers that live everywhere and sustain oneself and reminds me beautiful architecture in Europe.

Wildflowers. Blue Thistle and Barcelona.  Still life and urban sketching. Part 4.

Art Travel, Artist, Uncategorized, Urban sketching

Barcelona has an indescribably magical atmosphere of a unique and endlessly creative city, extending from its legendary masterpieces of the inimitable Antonio Gaudí to today’s innovative artists.

I am continuing my series with flowers&cities , this post is about a blue thistle. Why Barcelona represents this colour of flower for my imaginatory paintings? There are some bright blue coloured thistles’ paintings in this post that will give some ideas and maybe your next travel will be to this Mediterranean city:)

Thistle with colours: depth sea, some olive, a little bit colours of raspberry and pineapple like Barcelona’s Casa Milà, stunning modern architecture by Senyor Antoni Gaudí.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-raspberry-and-pineapple-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of colors lilac and turquoise. It reminds me about the old historical centre of Barcelona Ciutat Vella , especially its Gothic Quarter.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-lilac-and-turquoise-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of colors azur and silver. In my opinion, it is Barcelona’s famous La Sagrada Familia. I hope Antony Gaudí would agreed with my choice:)

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-azur-and-ilver-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with colours of raisins, figs and blue sea colors. It represents La Rambla, Barcelona’s famous pedestrian walkway known for its historical architecture.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-raisins-figs-and-blue-sea-colors-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of combination colours – a little bit rose salmon and pale brown, tender and bright. Do you like the song Barcelona by Freddie Mercury? or maybe lovely Song Barcelona by Giulia y Los Tellarini in the movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona?

Antonio Gaudí y Cornet, who has lived and devoted his whole life to his native Barcelona, is referred to as genius loci – “the genius of the place”, the person who shaped the look and spirit of the city.

Wildflowers. Yellow Thistle and Paris.  Still life and urban sketching. Part 3.

Art Travel, Artist, Uncategorized, Urban sketching

Paris. In the city of love, all you need to do is go outside and look around – beauty and history surround you within architecture, monuments, street names, memorial plaques, restaurant signs … There is something unique to find at every street corner.

Do you think sometimes about a city as a flower or as colour? I am continuing my series with flowers, even summer is over. This post is about a yellow thistle, bright and sunny flower with strong character that might survive in any location and condition. Why Paris represents this flower for me? Any artist might answer – just look at my paintings, they will explain everything:)

Thistle. Wildflower with colors of eggplant and gold petals. I would describe it as Parisian Luxembourg Gardens.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-colors-of-eggplant-and-gold-petals-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower, sunny petals of colors pumpkin, orange and beetroot. Yammy, right? As traditional French cuisine itself, tender, homemade and is filled with flavor.

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-petals-of-colors-pumpkin-orange-and-beetroot-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of colors canary- yellow, spicy and burgundy. Reminds me about the Opera Garnier, one of the most elegant building in Paris:)

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-canary-yellow-spicy-and-burgundy-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with petals of colors amber and purple. flower buds as big and small museums in the city center, Musée d’Orsay, Louvre, Musée de l’Orangerie, Musée Marmottan Monet.Musée Jacquemart-André,Musee de Cluny…

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-petals-of-colors-amber-and-purple-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with mustard-violet flower and apple’s color of thorns. Stylish as Parisian sweeping and majestic boulevards:)

https://pixels.com/featured/thistle-wildflower-with-mustard-violet-flower-and-apple-color-of-thorns-tamara-vitsenkova.html?newartwork=true

Thistle. Wildflower with peach color of petals and copper and amber background. It reminds me the Eiffel Tower in the morning:)

Travel and Art based on Inktober 31 days=31 drawings fun challenge. The last Inktober Day 31 – Risk and some conclusions:)

Art Travel, Artist, ink, Uncategorized

The last Inktober 2021 prompt is Risk.

For this prompt I did the ink drawing of the First Spasewalk by Alexei Leonov in 1965 in spacecraft Vostok-2. It was not only First space walk but an act of bravery of a human. The first of the earthlings to go out into outer space may well have failed to return to their home planet… In addition, Leonov was the artist and did his space’s paintings right on a space ship looking outside to the Earth!:) There couple links about Alexei Leonov, the artist and the astronaut are below.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/special/2014/newsspec_9035/index.html

My favorite expression is “Risk is a noble cause:) All astronauts are Heroes and romantics at the same time:) There is a movie Spacewalk (2017) with English sibtitles.Highly recommend it.

This was the last of Inktober 2021 prompts’ ink drawing. It was the 1st year of participating in the challenge and I finished all 31 prompts for Inktober 2021. Well, did I learnt something from this Challenge? It was easy? Did I enjoy the process? Will I do it again in future, the same way or differently? First of all, I’ve learnt some new English words:) Secondly, an ink drawings was my quite rare tool before. Usually I am painting with watercolour and oil. My progress is better that I even expected, and next, I am glad that I didn’t check it out other artists’ drawings for a prompt before I painted. It was a good decision do not mix it with my own ideas about a subject, and it was interesting to see other ideas afterwords. As an example, prompt Connect I did completely different from my collegues:))) And mainly, during Inktober I was “travelling” through my memory, dreams, our vacation photos in France, Spain, Italy, USA, Canada, Belarus, Germany, Greece and travelling with Time Machine and Space (imaginary!:). And all my Inktober ink drawings are telling their own stories and dreaming about some future advantages, and in future I will do my daily sketches with my new favourite tool Ink!:). The main conclusion, I love this challenge, a little bit proud that I didn’t stop in the middle of the month (it was not easy for me and distiplinary challenge:), and I will do Inktober and other Challenges in the following years.

Architecture, Art Travel, Artist, ink, Uncategorized, Urban sketching, Voyage

The next Inktober prompt is Slither.

For Inktober prompt Slitcher I did an ink drawing of ice skaters. This joy that you experience from sliding … fast and not very … Lightness, smiles!Beautiful lighting, music  and a huge amount of endorphins – hormones of happiness – are released into your body and you are full of optimism and joy:)

How long have you been skating? Last winter? Or many years ago, as a child? Cutting through the air, rushing on skates is fun that charges us with positive and makes us feel so fast and light:)

I am looking forward for skating here, in Toronto this winter!:)

And I am ready for tomorrow’s Inktober prompt – Risk.

Architecture, Art Travel, Artist, ink, Uncategorized, Urban sketching, Voyage

The next Inktober prompt is Patch.

For prompt Patch I am doing a wax seal stamp on an old envelope. Why envelopes with a wax seal stamp are full of romance?:)This is what exudes antiquity, palace coups, conspiracies and secrets. These are love letters, secret messages that were not supposed to be read by those to whom they were not intended. All envelopes were sealed with a wax seal by that time. It was the “password” on the mailbox for many centuries, which could only be cracked by skilled hands:) The antic cybersecurity was committing to protect their private secters…

And I am ready for tomorrow’s Inktober prompt – Slither.
